Hailing from an enlightened family of Varanasi now settled in Lucknow, dedicated to the art of music Abhijit Roychoudhury  is one of the foremost Sarod artist of the country. He started his journey  along with the classical tract at the age of only eight years under the guidance of his father late Dr. Uma Shankar  Roychhoudhury (disciple of Pt. Shree Charan Mishra) and late Pt. Bholanath Bhattacharya of A.I.R Lucknow.

            Abhijit’s style of playing Sarod is clearly distinguished by the amount of emotional depth in his music. He is the demonstrator of over taan & gamak and jumps to the risky note’s combination thus trying to achieve the impossible. He has been appreciated several times for his unique thok-jhala presentation. His systematic development of raga with aesthetic approach has been the main stay of his recital.  

            Abhijit is a Post Gradute in Agriculture  from Banaras Hindu University. In the field of music Abhijit did Sangeet Prabhakar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti Allahabad (1^st Division) and Sangeet Bhaskar from Prachin Kala Kendra, Chandigarh (1^st Division). He is a B-high  grade artist of A.I.R  & T.V. He has received Sur-Mani award from Sur-Singar Samad, Mumbai, “Sangeet Gaurav” from Award Council of India(UP) and was selected in the I.C.C.R’s panel of artistes in 1992. He is also among the jury of UP Sangeet Natak Academy music competition. Besides several successful performances in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Dhanbad, Varanasi, Allahabad, Agra, Vrindavan Dhrupad Samaroh, Burhanpur (MP), Datia (MP), Jhansi, Chandigarh, Dharamshala and several other cities in India, he has also toured to four European  Countries viz. Poland, Czech Republic, Germany and Belgium sponsored by I.C.C.R in the year 2003 and in the year 2011 he toured to Philippines to participate in 3^rd Rondlla International String Instrunebt Festival where he performed in Tagum city, Davao & Manila.
